Cold Open Time Mix Ups

SPEAKER_04

Okay, let's go.

SPEAKER_01

Everything runs through central time.

SPEAKER_05

The game starts at one.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So we got time. Yes. We got time to record it.

SPEAKER_05

There you go.

SPEAKER_01

Let's get it. That's your fault, Aaron.

SPEAKER_03

He started like literally saying, Who did you guys from the elevator? Like, damn. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_05

Real quick before they get recorded. The game has been moved up, I thought, to noon. Oh. But then I realized it's new. Central is a one and one. So it's an hour earlier. And so where I was like, noon, we gotta get going now. We gotta wait for Virgil. And then I'm like, never mind, sorry, that's central time. And then they're like, alright, ready C and then why is there get ready start? Dude, knock on the door.

SPEAKER_01

Dread is like, cut, go!

SPEAKER_05

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

And action and uh Ed was hoping that you would knock in the middle of it and they walk in already.

SPEAKER_02

We were gonna start our Brockmeyer episode.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, okay. And so they're gonna record just for a little bit and then we'll head on a little earlier and then play.

SPEAKER_02

Oh god, this is too good. You know all of this is making it to the podcast, right? Like it's all of this is gonna be on your top. Yo, the whole thing, yeah. That's exactly what's gonna be right on the spot. Oh, this is good. Oh, you were recording all this? Oh, I was recording the whole time. I've been recording. No, dude, I was recording. Oh, it's gonna it's gonna happen. You cuss us out like that.

SPEAKER_03

Listen, I'm not in a good mood already after that hard Celtic bullshit game, so I'm like, Oh yeah, I'm mad.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, Celtic got a goal in the in uh was that that was a penalty. Stopping time?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, to win.

SPEAKER_03

If they got a goal off of the penalty, which was kind of questionable, and then there was the offside one, which would be more questionable. And then they deal with it with a 3-1 and it's because if it was a draw, Hartz wins, right?

SPEAKER_01

So Harts would have won the championship. So who won then? Celtic. Celtic won. Oh, again? Yes. It sounds like they were trying to make it where Celtic won.

SPEAKER_02

Where Celtic won.

SPEAKER_03

You know, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

We're not we don't delve in the uh conspiracy theories.

SPEAKER_02

I got you. That's I mean, listen. It's Celtic. That was what how many consecutive years now they won?

unknown

Between between them.

SPEAKER_03

Between Rangers and Celtics, yeah. The last thing that's won before then is literally Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

So it's between since 1984, it's been Rangers and Celtics. Is it worth watching it at that point?

SPEAKER_03

No, that's why I would make a big deal on hard because being so far into it because of how big of a deal it was. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Alright.

Soccer Gripes And Rivalry Talk

SPEAKER_02

Hey, listen, uh let's start the show. Alright, let's start, let's start breakfast take since we're already, you know. Got interrupted by Eric once, and then now Virgil. Well, you know how this goes. Although it was classic. As soon as we were like, alright, action, knock on the door. I think he was listening to us out there. I was like, all right, I'm gonna ignite it.

SPEAKER_03

I could hear you guys from the elevator.

SPEAKER_02

Whatever, bro. Well, at least at least we're not in our home, and then there's a knock at the door. True, that is true. Because that would have been my daughter or something like that. So, hey, listen, uh, welcome to Breakfast Takes. Um my name is Ed, also known as the Data, and I've got my good friend, Mr. Donny Weiss, uh, the mayor. And then in in in the background, uh, we got Virgil Brooks, Mr. Producer himself. Look at him, he just looks at me so happy right now.

unknown

I didn't know.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, no, it's okay. You don't have to. I'm just saying that we have people, we have an audience in our podcast today. Eric, the influencer, you know. See? See, that's what I'm saying. You could have done that. You could have done that, and you didn't do anything. So, anyways, here.

SPEAKER_01

It's okay. I mean, this is probably the only time they'll be on breakfast takes because they're not gonna get up at 5 a.m. Central Time because the world runs through central time.

SPEAKER_05

Every morning that early, I just don't watch it guys. I don't care about Carolina Sports.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we've we've actually That's not a burn. That's not a burn. Whatever, bro. We you know, we're just expanding our shit here. I'm sorry that you're not too happy with the way our direction is going. You don't watch it anyways.

SPEAKER_03

Which Carolina teams are in the UNC them based off.

SPEAKER_02

No one cares.

SPEAKER_05

See? How's NCAA baseball? Yeah, they're not true.

SPEAKER_02

Uh, I do know about AT.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, because you've been to the city one time.

SPEAKER_02

Well, hey, did you have you?

SPEAKER_05

No, you didn't invite it.

SPEAKER_02

You yes, we did. First of all, it was a shitty fucking night. That game, anyways. It was raining and cold as shit.

SPEAKER_01

Anyways, let's when did this turn into Jerry Springer?

SPEAKER_02

Jerry. Oh, I missed Jerry. That was a that was a good show. That was a good show. It was a good show. All right, listen, let's get this going.

Why Brockmire Episode Four Hits

SPEAKER_02

Listen, the reason why we're doing this is because we both this morning we watched episode four of Brock Meyer. That was pretty good. Good job on you. And so we're here to talk about it. Uh, and at the end of episode three, so we have um Brock Meyer's ex-wife show up, and that's where it ended. And where that's where it all stopped, and that's where Eric stopped watching the show. And so we're on episode four, so we've already made it further than everybody else thought. So congratulations, Donnie. Thank you. Glad we could do that.

SPEAKER_01

And it's not gonna be just four. No, no, no. We're gonna continue.

SPEAKER_02

Seven, oh, don't say it. Six, seven, eight, nine. I'm sorry. We're trying to get a younger audience. We're trying to, you know, we're the TikTokers here, okay?

SPEAKER_03

I'm sure it's what the younger audiences want. Brockmeyer.

SPEAKER_02

Well, hey, listen. All right, listen, let's just get going. What was your thought on the episode number four? At season one, episode four.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the character Lucy is phenomenal. Yeah. Everything that they've written for this show is phenomenal. Yeah. And the the throwback scene to start it, where um, you know, they're they're uh in the studio, or excuse me, in the uh stadium, and and she's trying to uh you know tell him about how she is, and he's like, I'm getting ready to go on the street. Well, she calls herself a sexual deviant. Yeah, she's omnisexual or something. But then it cuts to present day where she shows up in town and uh totally freaks him out that she's there. And uh yeah, but he plays it off like he plays it off like it doesn't bother him, and then she makes the joke about uh about something, and she's like, Oh, we we can't joke about that or whatever. Like a joke. No, I think it's like it's I think it's still too early for you to joke for us to joke about that. Yeah, but then as she walks away, he says something, he's like, see, I could joke about it too.

SPEAKER_02

He and he does that like that laugh where you know he it's like he is about to have a like a mental breakdown. Like he's trying to hide the pain through his laugh. But Jules the whole time is like, you need to uh you need to come to terms with it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, these these are all my friends, you know. There's so legs, two two legs over here, and so's over here, and that somebody over there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So that's like so it sets up for the very next day, right? In which he is about to call the game, right? Um, and so he you can tell there's like something not right with him, you know what I mean? And he is just drinking and drinking. Obviously, it's a theme for him that he is a heavy drinker, yeah. And so he sets it up. They're playing their their neighbor town as a uh Butner, but yeah, the Butner Barons. Yeah. Um, and so he just goes absolutely off the rails, just calling the game, insulting them, it's like, oh, they think they're better than us.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he turned tries to turn the town against town in the stand to change things, but then the players fired up, right?

SPEAKER_02

But in reality, he was just comparing him and his ex-wife and all that. And the the the one part that I liked about that is like they think they have a better Applebee's than us.

SPEAKER_01

Nicer streets, a better Applebee's, and this, that, and the other. And they're like, they think they're better than you are. Yep. Yeah. And the players are like buying into it, and then Eurabi goes up there at a bat and takes out the first baseman.

SPEAKER_02

Right, he hits a grounder, isn't it? It's an obvious easy grounder. You know it's an out, but the dude thinks he's Eric Prophet and he thinks he's a linebacker, uh, and just absolutely runs over the first player, the first baseman. What? Am I wrong? Did you were you play a linebacker in high school? I sure did. There you go. See?

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Starts an all-out brawl on the field. And what's funny is you just see like players uh from the frackers come running in, and a guy like it's almost like Normandy. Like the player comes running in and then his punch just takes him down before he even knew what hit it. Correct. There's a couple of them in the background. That's the big thing about this show, and I told you about it when we were watching uh together earlier. Yeah, the background stuff is what you really need to paint. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Because you know, they show Brockmeier looking down at the stands and he sees his ex-wife and all of her little posse people, yeah, of uh sexual deviance down there. And I told you, it's like, look at that one guy, he's like stroking and petting the girl's hair. It's like just one of those random things. He's like two people away from the main character, but he's just petting that girl's hair. She busts out a uh a whip. And then she pulls the whip out.

SPEAKER_02

It's like, oh my gosh, this is so crazy. Go I got I want to go back to one point where they were at the you know, where they were talking to each other when she just finally found out that he was alive because she declared him dead. Yes, right, so she could get a divorce, which was like, okay, that's just she you could have just stayed a widow, but whatever, right? And so um she goes to Brock Myre and tells us, like, I need you to, you know, unload on me. And then she goes to make sure it's like, it hasn't been, it wasn't the first time today. I'm like, damn. That's the that's the I was like, oh, we can't joke about it.

SPEAKER_01

We can't joke about it. I guess too early to joke about it. Yeah, exactly. But then when he said she said about him being dead, declaring him dead, you know, you said, Well, for a few minutes I was dead in uh for three minutes, for three minutes in uh Mongolia, Mongolia or something, and and uh that was you know, people those women they they know how to use they they keep the battles around for amazing, yeah. So I'm getting the blind totally messed up. But you guys are.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, how dare you get this messed up? So now Eric is already judging us. He's not even paying attention, by the way, guys. I just want you guys to know that like we we have you know, people here. Virgil is watching right now a soccer match. What's the score?

SPEAKER_03

It's nil-nil.

SPEAKER_02

Nil nil. Uh, and then Eric is not even paying attention to us. You know, what kind of friends do we have here? I asked him to be on the podcast. What did he say? No thanks.

SPEAKER_04

That episode.

SPEAKER_02

We I offered to uh to watch it with us, and you said no.

SPEAKER_05

I didn't get up till like nine o'clock.

SPEAKER_02

That is also true. Also true. Also true. So, anyways, listen, we're getting derailed

On Air Trash Talk Sparks Violence

SPEAKER_02

here. So we're let's get back to the part where like, so okay, so there is a brawl, right?

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and all hell breaks loose because he is just starting to just start shit with people. He's starting shit with people, and he goes and and and starts insulting uh the town of Butner, and um they take it offensive. Like he, you know, Eureba goes and runs over uh the first baseman, and then he goes and says, You have the million-dollar pitcher who doesn't speak any English but knows the language, knows the language, and he's like, He he knows what to do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and it's like okay, do it.

SPEAKER_02

I know he's he's like talking through the microphone, like, do it, do it, and he just and that's when he hits a kid in the shoulder and all hell breaks loose. Like there's an absolute mayhem going on on the field, out in the stands, people are fighting each other, and all that sort of thing. It's it's wild. Yeah, so then we go and go into the the that night. So they go back to the bar. Yeah, and obviously, what is he doing? He's drinking drinking, and and you made the the uh observation. Why does Jules always drink wine with ice ice every single time? Like I've never seen anybody in my life drink wine and I think quirky character things that's so good, yeah. And so I was like, that's just weird, but okay, whatever. Uh so one of the guys, you know, he's like, Oh, you make me laugh again, you make me feel alive. Like, like before my wife uh used to come to my shower and make fun of me and laugh at me. I'm like, where does that even like come from? Like, right, what what what does it have to do with anything?

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. He's like, okay, you've unleashed this power in me to now like confront my wife or confront everybody.

SPEAKER_02

Everybody's confronting their demons at this point, but none of them did, anyways. Uh and so then you have the one dude with the short shorts, right? Right, who grabs Brockmeyer and then drags him outside. Yeah. Why? Because he has a person tied up, gagged, and beaten. And beaten, which just happens to be the third base coach for the Butler team.

SPEAKER_01

And they're like, look what we got for you. You know, you want to do something to him or whatever? And he's like, What do you want to do? What do you want to do? And he's like, uh, then he really you can see it, his realization in his brain that I've I've done fucked up and I've like taken this too far. He's like, uh, let him go. Like, no, let him go. You this is where you said this was your one of your favorite quotes. One favorite quote. So they're like, okay, boys, you tie him up and they run him off, and and and and the guy, the character leans in, I think it's Dale is his name. He leans in to Brockmeyer and he's like, um, let's see, I wrote it down here so I wouldn't say it just right. This is why people think baseball is boring.

SPEAKER_02

Because obviously, yeah kidnapping someone, beating the dude to death is part of like, you know, baseball.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. But letting them go and not not not continuing the fight, that's why baseball's boring.

SPEAKER_02

Boring is exactly. So I think he finally had that realization. I was like, oh, I'm kind of I I fucked up a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's like, okay, I yeah, and he yeah, he's like, okay, I went too far. Yeah. I let I let my personal issues bleed into bleed into and and and interject into the town.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly, into the town, to the game, into but here's the thing. But eventually, we'll get to it, it circles back around. But Jules actually is taking full advantage of that. Absolutely. She goes like, you know, uh, you know, at this rate, I'm gonna be able to pay off my loan. Yeah, which we all know, the the payments balloon, right? And you know, the the contract is a bad contract for her. Um, but she just did she was like, I did it to save baseball. So she knew.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

But she is taking full advantage of the fact that like now I was like, I got Brock Meyer starting fights, and and and I got people now coming to the ballpark, which, by the way, she puts at 50 cents of beer.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. 50 cent beer night, and then she tells him at the bar, you know, I've got three bags of cash back at the stadium, stacks of cash, uh, you know, and and you know, 45% increase in ticket sales, and it's all thanks to this whole melee and this excitement around the Yeah, but I care too much, I care about you to uh let 45% get in the way.

SPEAKER_02

And it's something that like for me, as being a fan of Cleveland, I already you know grew up in Cleveland, when they said 50 cent uh beer, I was like, the first thing that I thought about was 25 cent night, and what happened that night when they had a 25 cent night because like it was an absolute brawl in like mayhem in Cleveland when they had that night, they never did it again, obviously. So they're kind of like tying that you know though that night to um to Brockmeyer, but not really, they didn't want to like make too many cleaning.

SPEAKER_01

Like an inspiration for that idea, that episode idea, but not like a direct rip-off of it. Yeah, correct.

SPEAKER_02

Which for me as a fan, I was like, hell yeah, yeah, that's awesome. Let's do it. So uh all right, so for he so he finally has that realization.

Apology Scene And Viral Comeback

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, what does he do next?

SPEAKER_01

That is like okay, I gotta go talk to her. I need to go see her, and I need to get this over with.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So he goes and knocks on her door, and she's it's funny because she kind of slinks out at first, and then she realizes it's him. It's like, oh, okay. She thought it was like another sexual. Right, because she's like squeezing her way in and this is another sexual partner coming, and it's like, oh, and she okay. He's like, I think we need to talk. Can I come in? And she's like, I don't think that'd be a good idea. It's not a good idea. But the funny thing is, she turns around and tells everybody, we're gonna take a hard five, get you some bananas and Gatorade out the cooler, stay hydrated. Like she's talking to a little league team or something, you know. It's like that's what the coach would tell the players like, we're gonna take five, get you some bananas and Gatorade. Right. That that little subtle stuff too. Correct. And then she comes out and she's you know, talking to him, and he he he finally like gets his his side of it out to her. And she's like, doesn't take it the way he thinks she's gonna take it. And she's like, gives him a hug, and she's like, I'm glad you did that. You know, it wasn't like I she needed his apology or anything to be who she really be who she is. It was more like, I'm glad you got that out, and now you we can both kind of move on.

SPEAKER_02

Which is you know, when those some of the things that he said to her, I was like, You're my true north of hatred. Right. When I think of hatred, when I point at hatred, it point right at you. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

And she was just like, Okay, like she's just taking it, like you just get it off your chest, exactly. It was not affecting her one bit, and he's like, I will never forgive you, that's never gonna happen, blah blah blah. And she's just like, Okay. She's like, I don't need your forgiving. Exactly. Don't need it. And then the parting shot she leaves him with this looks so good. She's like, by the way, don't wear your slippers in front of your girlfriends. It makes you look like a dink. The word dink is like the perfect choice of word for that line, right there.

SPEAKER_02

Like it wasn't like if you would have you know like it makes you look like an idiot or something like that, that would have not been like a lot of different things. It didn't land the word dink right there. Landed that line.

SPEAKER_01

That's the final stab for her. You know what I mean? That's one of those things that the writers, including him and probably you know, which is Hanka's area that he created. His his writing and his ability to pick the right words for things like that are fantastic.

SPEAKER_02

Right. So he finally, all right, so that happens, and then he is sitting in the car with Charles. Yeah, right, and there is the that that uh blow-up thing that like you know moves from side to side that you see at car dealerships and all the time, and you know, um he he gets out of the car and goes and have a fight and just starts a fight with that thing.

SPEAKER_01

And that's the funniest thing to see him fight, he's punching this little thing that keeps ballooning up and down.

SPEAKER_02

So there it is. Uh so that's Brockmeyer episode four, Eric, just for you, buddy.

SPEAKER_01

But the thing that that gets me too is they bring uh Jules and Charles come in at the end, remember? Yes. He's sitting there and they show him how he's blown up and he's famous again. Like they show him the the one of him like like doing this during the melee tantrum during the melee.

SPEAKER_02

Because Charles put his helmet on. Yeah, that's it. And he goes, Like, before I went under the table, I hit record and I recorded everything.

SPEAKER_01

I recorded everything, and it was just like you know, veins popping out on him and everything. And when they're showing this to him and they're like, it's got half a million views, you can see his brain spin. Like he's like, he gets a little bit of a smirk or grin on his face. He doesn't like like I'm it's almost like you can hear him thinking, I'm back. I'm back, bitches. Yeah, exactly. It's like so, so perfect way to finish off that.

SPEAKER_02

This is like, I mean, it's always tying like this this show. I you know, granted, it as raunchy as it is, and as like, you know, people think this like, you know, it is it's it is a raunchy uh show, but it's so good in like us fans of baseball, like can identify to a lot of the things that like that happen on that game. For example, like the the unspoken rule of like, hey, listen, you hit one of ours, we're gonna take care of one of yours, right? It's one of those things, like the 25 cent knight. So you're connecting a lot of historical things that happen already in Major League Baseball throughout history.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, just the idea of finding something or even making up something about the other team to create some spark in your team is kind of the the underlying point of that.

SPEAKER_02

Like some managers would purposely get kicked out of a game in order to start yeah, because sometimes it's like why.

SPEAKER_01

Is he up there arguing and getting thrown out of a game? The managers will go out there and get thrown out to spark their own players. Yeah, like y'all fight for me because I went up there and got your back. You go fight for it. I fought for you, now it's your turn to go fight for me. Right. And in this scenario in the show, it went too far, but that's the point of the show is like, okay, they take these little things, and you gotta kind of pull that out of what he was really trying to do. It just got away from him because of his personal situation. Right, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

So I I'm looking forward to episode five. Yep. Um we're gonna get to five. We're gonna get to five. And yeah, thank you. Whatever, bro.

Netflix Pulls Shows So We Buy DVDs

SPEAKER_02

Uh, and so we're gonna we're not we have to look for a new streaming service because apparently Netflix is ending it. It says it's ending soon, which I'm pissed off about.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_02

I know the humanity of things.

SPEAKER_01

I don't understand. Netflix, you used to be able to order a movie through Netflix, they would pull it out of their vast library of DVDs and mail it to you. They don't even have to do that now. Like, do you not have to do that?

SPEAKER_02

I know you called it. I call that. I know you did. We're getting right into it. We're like, we're doing good, and all of a sudden Netflix is like, hey, they're doing someone's doing a podcast about this. What are we gonna do? Let's clay, let's just go ahead and uh remove this from the streaming service.

SPEAKER_01

Like, you have a data center, you have computers that can keep these episodes forever. Why can you not go to Netflix and just be like, I'm it's it's always in the library. It's like going to a public library. That book's always gonna be there. Why can't these episodes so?

SPEAKER_02

Now we're gonna have to find somewhere to find it. I think Amazon hasn't, but you've got to buy the season, which is some bullshit. Well, yeah, I know you're not watching it now.

SPEAKER_01

I um I'm gonna look for the seasons on DVD. I'm going old school. You're going old school DVD? I'm gonna see if I can find it. I'm sure you have a DVD player in your house. Absolutely. I know you're probably have more than one. I know I have one hooked up to the main TV. I think I still got my Xbox. I haven't used it in forever, but it's there. So this is the thing. This right here proves my point about why I was collecting shows on DVDs years ago when it was a thing. Because eventually they're gonna go away. Right. So Rhonda kept asking me, why are you getting like, you know, all the seasons of Miami Vice on DVD? I'm like, so when I go to the retirement home, I can just watch TV all day long. I can just pop DVDs in. You're planning for the future. I was planning for the future. So then streaming services come along and I stopped keeping them. I'm like, oh, well, there's everything's gonna be online. Yeah. No, it's not. Not not really. Not unless you want to pay for it. So you're gonna I'm gonna go back to buying this the series that I liked.

SPEAKER_02

I was just gonna say, good luck trying to find DVDs nowadays.

SPEAKER_01

No one sells them. I'm sure there's a lot of places that have a whole bunch they didn't sell when streaming services started, so that's what I'm gonna start hunting.

SPEAKER_02

Antique stores, see if you can find them at uh family video, blockbuster. I think they'll have it for you. Yeah, flea markets. Woolworth is one of them. I thought so, you know, they sell them Blockbuster, yeah. Circuit City. Circuit City. Bend, Oregon, to go to Blockbuster, do not know the only that's the only blockbuster left in in all of the United States, isn't it?

SPEAKER_04

Yes, I went to Hillsborough, Oregon, and it was still like three hours from there.

SPEAKER_01

Do you still have your blockbuster card? I I think I have a blockbuster card somewhere. I got rid of my blockbuster card. I save everything, I'm a hoarder.

SPEAKER_02

Wow. Not only that, but did you know that they were they they offer they were offered for them to buy Netflix?

They should have uh a uh be like, hey, we'll give you your membership card, we'll send you one of those or like laminated membership cards again, because those were awesome. Mine was actually laminated. Oh, me too. Me too. God, we're showing our age, honey.
